Turn any photo into a birthday card in under a minute

Happy Birthday Photo Frame is a small Android app with one job: take the picture you already have and wrap it in something worth sending. Here is what is inside it.

Three families of birthday designs ship with the app — no download, no account.

Everybody has the photo. It is sitting in the camera roll from last summer, or it arrived in a group chat this morning. What nobody has is the twenty minutes it takes to open a desktop design tool, hunt for a birthday template, mask out the background and line up the text. That gap — a good photo and no time — is the entire reason this app exists.

Happy Birthday Photo Frame is an Android app that does the wrapping for you. You pick a picture, pick a design, nudge a few stickers into place and save. Everything happens on the phone, offline, in a single screen. Below is a tour of what is actually in the box.

36Landscape frames
21Portrait templates

Four ways to start

The home screen is deliberately boring: four buttons, each one a different starting point depending on what kind of photo you have and how much work you want to do.

🖼️

Frame

The classic path. Your photo sits behind one of 36 landscape birthday frames — balloons, candles, cake tables, confetti borders — that you swipe through live on the canvas.

✂️

BG Remover

Cuts the person out of your photo and drops them into a full birthday scene: a background layer behind them and decorations in front. 14 ready-made scenes.

📱

Portrait Frame

21 tall, story-shaped templates built for phone screens — the right aspect ratio for a status update or a WhatsApp story, no cropping afterwards.

📂

Album

Everything you have made, in one place. The app saves into its own gallery folder, so your creations never get lost between screenshots.

Inside the editor

All four paths land in the same editor, and the same toolbar runs along the bottom. It is short on purpose — eight tools, each one tap away:

  • 🖼️ Frame · swap design
  • 🎨 Filter · 39 looks
  • 🎚️ Adjust · 4 sliders
  • 🔤 Text · custom message
  • 😀 Sticker · 12 packs
  • ✂️ Cut · isolate subject
  • 🔁 Flip · mirror photo
  • 🌈 Color / Gradient · backdrop

Filters and fine-tuning

The filter row carries 39 presets, from cinematic colour grades like Technicolor, Cinema02 and Broadway through warm vlog looks to a set of tinted black-and-whites. If a preset is nearly right, Adjust gives you the four sliders that matter — brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpen — instead of a wall of controls you will never touch.

Stickers, twelve packs deep

Over 450 stickers, sorted into twelve categories: Birthday, Text, Hearts, Ties, Diadems, Glasses, Cat ears, Cheeks, Eyes and more. Drag to place, pinch to scale, twist to rotate. The party props are the fastest way to make a plain photo look like it was taken at an actual party.

The cut-out is the trick that makes a photo look designed rather than decorated — the subject stands inside the scene instead of behind a sticker border.

The background remover, in detail

Tap BG Remover and the app runs on-device subject segmentation to find the person in your photo and make everything else transparent. Automatic cut-outs are never perfect on the first pass, so there are six tools to finish the job by hand:

  • AI — one-tap automatic subject detection.
  • Auto and Lasso — region selection for large areas.
  • Erase and Restore — brush away a stray shoulder, paint back a lost strand of hair.
  • BG — swap what sits behind the cut-out.

The brush has both a radius slider and an offset slider, which lifts the brush above your fingertip so you can see the edge you are painting. Once the subject is clean, drop them into any of the 14 birthday scenes: background behind, balloons and streamers in front.

No upload, no waiting. The cut-out model runs entirely on your phone. Your photos are never sent to a server for processing, which is also why the whole flow works in airplane mode.

From camera roll to card, in four steps

  1. Pick a starting point

Frame, BG Remover or Portrait Frame — depending on whether you want a border, a full scene or a story-shaped design.

  2. Choose your photo

The built-in picker reads straight from your gallery. Pinch and drag on the canvas to position it inside the frame.

  3. Decorate

Swipe frames until one clicks, add a filter, type the birthday message, then pile on stickers. Undo and redo are always in the toolbar, so experimenting costs nothing.

  4. Save and share

Save writes exactly what is on the canvas to a dedicated Happy Birthday Photo Frame folder in your gallery, ready for any messaging app.

What gets saved

The export is a WYSIWYG capture of the canvas: photo, filter, adjustments, flip, frame and every sticker and text layer, flattened into a single JPEG. It lands in Pictures/Happy Birthday Photo Frame, which means it shows up in the app's own Album tab and in your system gallery — no hunting through a private app folder to attach it to a message.

A note on languages

The interface ships in 29 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and both Chinese scripts — with per-app language selection, so you can run the app in your language without changing your phone's system setting.

Frequently asked

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Frames, stickers, filters and the background-removal model are all bundled in the app and run locally. You only need a connection for store and account features.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Editing and subject cut-out happen on your device. Photos leave your phone only when you choose to share a finished image yourself.

Is it free?

The app is free to download and the full editor is free to use. Saving your finished design to the gallery is part of the Premium upgrade, which also removes ads across the app.

Which Android versions are supported?

Android 9 (Pie) and newer, built against the current Android SDK.

Can I use it for things other than birthdays?

Nothing stops you. The sticker packs cover hearts, glasses, cat ears and plain text, so anniversaries, congratulations and thank-you cards work just as well.
